Violence has a broad reach and can happen anywhere, including Scarsdale. It can involve spouses, partners, elders, children, friends and parents. Violence can occur in relationships, casual encounters, in the workplace and sadly in schools. Violence knows no barriers when it comes to ethnicity, race, gender, socio-economic status, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation. Violence is not just physical, it can be emotional, verbal, psychological, sexual, financial and technological.
Research has repeatedly demonstrated that even witnessing violence can damage the emotional well-being of children. The societal, community, relationship and individual risk factors are consistent through all forms of violence. Positively, so are the protective factors. It is for this reason that the Scarsdale Safe Coalition works collaboratively to coordinate resources and services, and and over time, reduce the risk factors of violence and increase the protective factors in our community.
