An Evening with Professor Anita Hill
The Scarsdale Safe Coalition and its community partners sponsored a virtual visit with Professor Anita Hill, Senior Advisor to the Provost, Brandeis University and Professor of Law, Public Policy and Women's Studies, Heller Graduate School of Policy and Management on the evening of April 19, 2022.
In her bookBelieving: Our Thirty Year Journey to End Gender Violence,Professor Hill challenges the notion that the harassment, rape and murder of women, particularly women of color, as well as transgender and non-binary people is not an individual problem but a cultural and endemic problem in our society. Professor Hill puts forth a call to action for accountability among leadership and a rejection of the belief that "boys will be boys."
Professor Hill was joined in conversation by two-time Pulitzer-Prize winning columnist and author Nicholas Kristoff.
Copies of Believing:

We are grateful to our event co-sponsors including The Scarsdale Public Library, The Friends of the Scarsdale Library and Westchester Reform Temple.
Vital information duringCOVID-19.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Americans are required to stay home to protect themselves and their communities. However, the home may not be safe for many families who experience domestic violence, which may include both intimate partners and children. Violence in the home has an overall cost to society, leading to potentially adverse physical and mental health outcomes. For many people, being forced to distance at home is not only unsettling but also dangerous. Those who regularly experience family violence (domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse) may see this behavior exacerbated during such stressful times.
Survivors and victims need resources and support now more than ever.
Included in this message are local and national resources for both violence and mental health support, action steps to encourage our government to consider survivors and victims, and information about orders of protection and other emergency actions related to family violence. It is our hope that the Scarsdale community will continue to consider the most vulnerable populations during this time. We wish you all peace, health, and safety.
