The Scarsdale Community Youth Service Project is a partnership of Scarsdale Village,
Scarsdale Schools and Scarsdale § Edgemont Family Counseling Service. The Youth
Service Project places a team of Youth Outreach Workers in both Scarsdale Middle
School and Scarsdale High School for daily emotional support and counseling, crisis
intervention, and parent support and education.
THE LEADERSHIP Program:
Young Women in Leadership and Young Men in Leadership are health and wellness groups
for middle school boys and girls made possible by a grant from the United Way. These
groups focus on making decisions and positive choices about a variety of teen challenges
such as substance use, bullying, healthy relationships and the pressures of adolescent
social life. Groups for middle school boys meet on Friday night and combine physical
activity and a pizza supper with group discussion. Girls' groups meet after school
on Tuesdays.
A section for older teenage girls is available at the High School.
PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS:
Parent Support Groups provide group members skills and confidence to parent their
teenager through a safe passage from childhood to adolescence and young adulthood.
PSG’s are available for Scarsdale parents of TWEENS to TEENS. Support groups provide
an atmosphere and a structure where parents help each other to deal with the challenges
of raising an adolescent.
ADVENTURE BASED COUNSELING (ABC):
During the summer, project staff offer daily outdoor trips through our Adventure
Based Counseling for boys and girls 11 to 14 years of age. Join Scarsdale § Edgemont
Counseling Service for mountain biking, rock climbing, and water adventures that
build confidence and self-esteem in a fun-filled environment.

for girls in seventh and eighth grades. The program’s goal is to support young girls
in their emotional development through community service, leadership building, and
peer group support. The program meets weekly from Fall through Spring at Scarsdale
Middle School.
YOUNG MEN IN LEADERSHIP: An activity group for
boys, provides on-going emotional support through a program to promote positive
youth development for boys in grades seven and eight. The group combines physical
activity with a light supper and conversation about young men’s issues. Young Men
in Leadership meets Friday nights in the gymnasium at Scarsdale Middle School.
